DONALD L. HEAD, CFA
Don has been engaged in investment management for over thirty years and founded
Head and Associates in 1989. In 1982, he joined Casco Northern Bank, becoming
Senior Vice President in charge of the Trust Department. Prior to arriving
in Maine, Don worked many years at larger institutions in the Midwest. At the
Central Trust Company in Cincinnati, he managed investment research and strategy
from 1978 to 1982. From 1972 to 1977, he was Vice President in institutional
sales for The First Boston Corporation, one of the world's leading investment
banks. He began his career at the National City Bank of Cleveland where he
became Investment Research Director.
Don has a B.A. in Economics from Denison University. He is a Chartered Financial
Analyst, a Fellow of the Association for Investment Management and Research,
and a graduate of AIMR's Investment Management Workshop. He is President of
PORTopera and a member of the executive committee of the University of Southern
Maine Corporate Partners. He has been Director and Corporate Secretary of Goodwill
Industries of Northern New England and President of Portland Community Chorus.
He was co-chair in 2000 of the rededication of the Portland Observatory.
W. BRADFORD WILLAUER
Brad has been an investment counselor with Head and Associates since 1992 after
devoting over twenty years to financial markets, most of them with Credit Suisse
First Boston. He has been directly involved with sales and trading of equities
and fixed income securities - both taxable and tax exempt.
He entered the business with Credit Suisse First Boston Corporation in 1969
specializing in institutional marketing in the Boston office. In 1984 he joined
their Capital Markets Group in New York.
Brad is Board Chair of the Maine College of Art and a member of the boards
of the Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design and Cruising Club of America,
where he is past Rear Commodore of the Boston Station. He is past President
of the Maine Yacht Racing Association and former Commodore of the Prouts Neck
Yacht Club. Previously he served on the boards of the Portland Symphony Orchestra,
United Way, the World Affairs Council of Maine and Noble and Greenough School
in Dedham, MA. He has a B. A. in History from Princeton University.
THOMAS M. CATTELL
Tom joined Head and Associates in 2008 as Chief Operating Officer. He began his career at
U.S. Trust in New York in 1978, moving to Bank of New England in Boston in 1983. He joined
Maine Bank and Trust in 1991 to create the wealth management group. Tom has a B.A. from
Columbia University. He is Treasurer of Friends of Scouting, Pine Tree Council. He is former
Board Chair of both the Portland Public Library and Ingraham.
CARL G. GERCKE, CFA
Carl joined Head and Associates as director of research in 1999 with fourteen years of
experience in the investment industry. In 2008 he became Chief Investment Officer. He began
his career in 1985 in corporate finance with Prudential Insurance Company, later becoming a
portfolio manager there. In 1992 he joined UNUM, where he was a Director in corporate
securities. Carl holds a B.A. in English from Yale University and an M.B.A. in Finance from
Columbia University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and is a member of the Board of the
Maine CFA Society. He serves on the investment committee of Baxter State Park.
DONNA D. McCONNELL
Donna joined Head and Associates in 1999 as an account manager after 18 years
with Merrill Lynch. Her experience at Merrill Lynch included client service,
management support and investment support functions for retail clients. She
holds a B.S. from Bryant College and has earned the Series 7, 63 and 65 securities
industry accreditations.
ROBERT S. WHITEHEAD
Bob joined Head and Associates as an account manager in 2001 after many years in other aspects of financial services. At Merrill Lynch he held several positions including investment management, administrative management and corporate development. Earlier he served in various capacities at a major New England commercial bank. Bob is a graduate of the School of Business at the University of Connecticut. He has completed numerous professional courses on investments and has held many security and insurance licenses.
CHRISTOPHER W. KELLY, CFA
Chris joined Head and Associates as an account manager in 2004 with twenty years experience in investment management and financial analysis. He was most recently Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Key Private Bank in Portland. Earlier he was Vice President of the investment management subsidiary of A. T. & T. Corporation. He is a graduate of Roanoke College and holds an MBA from Drexel University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a member of the Board of the Wayside Soup Kitchen and a mentor at the Long Creek Youth Development Center.
RICHARD D. H. CASSELMAN
Richard joined Head and Associates as an account manager in 2007 with twenty years experience in investment management. Prior to his arrival he was the Chief Investment Officer at First Advisors. Before moving to Maine in 2004, Richard spent ten years as a senior portfolio manager with Mellon Private Wealth Management in Pittsburgh. He is a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and holds an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh. Richard is a part-time coach with the Gould Sunday River racing program.
